Community

Chale has a thriving community here are a list of some of the things it offers

Chale Parish Council

Chale School
We are one of the smallest schools on the Island and we have been described as a
'Very Happy Little School';. Their last OFSTED report found that we provided a happy, welcoming environment with good teaching standards and pupil's attainment was high.

Chale Church
St Andrews church is part of a group of three churches including St Olav's and St Peter's this is clearer on the Wight Churches web site. The records that are still surviving show that the first church built on the site of St Andrews was built by Hugo de Vernon, the then Lord of the Manor, and was dedicated on 1st of December 1114 by Gifford, Bishop of Winchester.

The children are the congregation of tomorrow, without them the future of the church looks bleak. Empty pews have already resulted in the closure of 2 village churches.

Chale Green Store, Post Office and Café
You will always find a superb selection of fresh, seasonal and local produce at Chale Green Stores; perfectly ripened, prepared for your enjoyment and at affordable prices. We are proud to work with local farmers and growers to bring the best of Island produce to our customers.

Village shops struggle to compete against the might of Tesco and Sainsburys and need regular local trade to survive. Without the shop everyone will have to drive to a superstore. We have retained our Post Office when most villages have lost theirs.

Wight Mouse Inn
Built on the South West slopes of St. Catherine’s Down, The Wight Mouse Inn occupies a delightful rural setting overlooking the magnificent Chale Bay, Tennyson Down and the Needles. The Inn offers everything for your comfort including peaceful gardens and plenty of parking spaces.

The pub needs a regular trade of locals throughout the winter months, after the holiday trade has ended. Pubs are closing down every day and we are losing our way of life.

Chale Garage
Telephone: 01983 730466

The garage cannot buy fuel at the pump prices of the supermarkets, but it continues to provide a valued service to the village. If your car won't start in the morning no supermarket will come to your assistance, but the local garage will.
